Meet the Members: Brennen Mutz

Brennen Mutz – FWFC Flying Member/Club Instructor – Commerical, CFI

Greetings from Houma, Louisiana! Growing up, I had no connections, resources, or guidance to make aviation an attainable lifestyle, but I always knew I wanted to fly. At 18, I was accepted into the University of Louisiana at Monroe, where I earned my B.S. in Aviation.

Like many aspiring pilots, I faced financial challenges. My mother and I couldn’t afford college or flight training, so I enlisted in the Army National Guard after graduating high school and became an Air Traffic Controller. During my service, I earned two tactical facility ratings in mobile ATC equipment while working toward my private pilot’s license.

In 2019, I was hired by the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, where I work in airfield operations. This role has been a masterclass in aviation, giving me hands-on experience managing aircraft emergencies, coordinating complex scenarios, and even supporting Air Force One and Two movements. It’s a job that’s allowed me to meet amazing people and gain experiences I never imagined.

Joining the Fort Worth Flying Club has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. With the guidance of talented instructors like Jason Meadows, who helped me earn my high-performance endorsement, and Alec Schaffner, who mentored me through my commercial pilot and CFI certificates, I’ve accomplished a lot in the last few months. Alec, in particular, has been instrumental in helping me sharpen my skills.

Teaching aviation has always been my dream, and I’m excited to begin this next chapter as a flight instructor. I understand the challenges of starting out in this field, and I want to help others navigate their journey. Whether you’re just starting or working on your next rating, I’d love to be part of your training and share what I’ve learned along the way.
